For mid April the weather was sunny but very breezy, you needed a jacket when you were in the open. Staying at St Mary’s Hall Hotel in Hugh Town the capital of St Marys, it was convieintly located with the harbour to the rear of the hotel and a beach located a short walk from the front of the hotel along with the local shops.

Wildlife mainly birds and walking is the main attraction of the Isles of Scilly, walking not ideal for someone like me with mobility problems, but I was still able to enjoy the island. They have taxis that also offer a tour around St Marys, Dial a Doux were very helpful and informative about the history of the island.

St Mary’s island has a wonderful relaxed village feel to it, and measuring less than 2.5 square miles I can understand why. There were plenty of treats to be enjoyed, well I was on holiday! Freshly baked biscuits would be waiting for me in the hotel room everyday. The food at the hotel was exquisite, I had to limit myself to two courses every evening otherwise i would not get into any of my clothes!

Next stop was a visit to Tresco Island and their Abbey Gardens…
