I am sharing with you one of my favourite kitchen gadgets - my Kenwood k-Mix Fire Cracker. For years I made my cakes by hand or using a small electric hand whisk. Nothing wrong with a hand whisk, I still use mine for those smaller bakes. But they do not cope well with large batches of cake batter or butter cream. So 2 years ago I took the decision to invest in a kitchen mixer.
k-Mix verses KitchenAid?
Like many people looking to buy a new kitchen mixer I faced the Kenwood vs KitchenAid dilemma. Both machines are expensive, although budget was not issue I had money set aside specifically for a new mixer. I researched the two brands, and came to the conclusion there really is not that much difference between them. They both look great, come in a range of colours, virtually the same speed. Although the k-Mix is lighter in weight.
For me it came down to the fact that I am a home baker, I bake frequently but not every day. I have a petite frame so weight was important. It needed to be easy to pull forward to the front of the kitchen work surface. I will be honest, I am also sensible with my money, although some in the family may use another term for this - I prefer sensible. Although I had the money, I just could not bring myself to pay the extra for the KitchenAid when I knew the k-Mix would do the same task.
I love my K-Mix!
- I now bake lovely dough based recipes, the dough hook is fabulous.
- Big cake mixes - not a problem.
- All in one recipes - even better.
- Batches of light fluffy butter cream - quick and easy.
- A recipe that needs you to mix for 10 minutes, I do not need to hold the mixer I can step away to get ingredients or just to do a happy dance!
So there you have it my K-Mix is my favourite kitchen gadget. Do you have a favourite kitchen gadget?
Ooooh yes! I love my Beryl. She's a Boysenberry Kitchen Aid! I wrote a whole blog post dedicated to her!
